What is Adoption?
Adoption is the legal process whereby a person becomes a lawful member of a family that is not his/her birth family. The formal proceedings regarding to adoption takes place at court. Adoption gives all the rights and responsibilities of being lawful parents to the adoptive parent(s). Furthermore, the child adopted has all the social, emotional, and legal rights of a family member. Sometimes, the court gives its verdict in the words "as if born to" which stands for new established relationship between parent and child.

Adoption Agency:
Basically, there are two type of adoption agency: private and public agency.

Public Adoption Agencies have the common features such as:
  • Supported by public funding
  • Run by counties or states
  • Extends assistance in the adoption of children in the foster care system.
Private Adoption Agencies are provided license by the state government but they are run privately. Furthermore, these private agencies deal with most types of adoption formalities including complete adoptions, prepare home studies and post-placement reports as well as supervise and complete the adoption finalization.

Prior to assumption of parental rights, the court looks into several facts in order to facilitate adoption procedures effectively. During the court’s final hearing, the judge reviews information about the child, the biological parent(s), and the adopting parent(s). Further, the judge reviews all underneath information about the adopting and placing families. The judge may ask questions of all parties, including the child or children if they are expressive to their feelings and wishes. Finally, the judge will consent or reject the petition related to adoption. If the judge gives the verdict in favor of adoption called finalization of adoption and thereafter an Adoption Decree is issued.
