Common Anti-Inflammatory Drug May Help Prevent Specific Skin Cancer
The popular anti-inflammatory drug celecoxib, more commonly known as Celebrex, could significantly reduce the number skin cancer tumors among people who have a rare condition called Gorlin syndrome. Patients with this genetic condition are highly vulnerable to developing skin basal cell carcinoma, the most common type of skin cancer, and often experience hundreds or even thousands of these tumors over a lifetime.

Quitting Smoking Raises Risk for Developing Type 2 Diabetes
Although quitting smoking is a very healthy move, those who manage to quit are at a significantly increased risk of developing diabetes in the short term. According to a group of U.S. researchers, people who stop smoking have a more than a 70 percent greater likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes within the first six years after quitting, compared to people who never smoked. According to the researchers, the increased diabetes risk likely comes from the weight gain associated with quitting smoking. However, they maintained that the findings of their study are not to be used as an excuse to keep smoking.

Exercising in groups more beneficial than working out solo
New research conducted by University of Oxford's Institute of Cognitive and Evolutionary Anthropology suggests that exercising in a group can be healthier than working out alone. The crew was divided into teams, each with six members and asked to work out with identical rowing machines. The only variable was whether the workouts were done alone, or in teams exercising together, with the six machines coordinated by the crew's coxswain.

Only 8 percent high school students get enough sleep
A new study has revealed that only about 8 percent of high school students get enough sleep on an average school night. The study evaluated responses from 12,000 students in grades 9 through 12 who participated in the 2007 national Youth Risk Behavior Survey.

The authors found that 10 percent of adolescents sleep only five hours and 23 percent sleep only six hours on an average school night.
